Pre & Post-Natal Yoga Teacher Training

This will be a Hybrid course, with options to attend either online via Zoom or In-Person. This course can be used towards a 300-Hour Certificate.

Friday, June 16: 6pm-9pm
Saturday, June 17:  9am-5pm (1 hour lunch)
Sunday, June 18:  9am-5pm (1 hour lunch)

This Pre & Post-Natal Yoga Teacher Training is for practitioners of various modalities, who want to increase, deepen and improve their knowledge of the changes experienced in both the pre-natal and post-natal body.

This course will help build confidence in working with women/persons at all stages of pregnancy and those with newborns. Knowledge gained from this course will enable you to integrate pregnant women/pregnant persons into existing public yoga classes and to teach specialty pre-natal classes.

This training will focus on adapting asanas (postures) and pranayama (breathing techniques). Together we will explore mudras, sounding and chanting for the maximum safety and benefit of the women/persons!

This course is designed for yoga teachers, doulas, nurses, midwives and yoga ‘teachers-to-be’, presenting a consistent yogic approach to the experience of childbirth.

Participants will:

  • Receive instruction on the basics of anatomy and stages of pregnancy
  • Practice poses and breathing techniques beneficial for pregnancy
  • Practice hands-on assists for pregnant women/pregnant persons in a variety of poses
  • Receive basic anatomical information on cautions and contraindications of various poses
  • Learn sequences that help relieve mothers’ discomfort from lifting, nursing and carrying a baby
  • Receive information on the physical and hormonal changes occurring in a new mother’s body
  • Receive instruction on sequences to alleviate lower back discomfort and core integration

A certificate of completion will be granted upon successful completion of the course.:

This course can be used towards Continuing Education hours.

Sara Klaiman

Sara Klaiman is a Registered Midwife in the GTA, and has worked for ten years supporting hundreds of birthing women/persons and their families throughout their prenatal care, labour and birth, and six week postpartum period. Sara is an experienced yoga teacher who took both the 250 hr and 300 hr Yoga Teacher Training through Yoga Sanctuary Academy graduating in 2007. She has integrated her knowledge of the anatomical and physiological aspects of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in combination with her somatic education in Dance and Yoga – to create this special 20 hour Prenatal/Postpartum Yoga Teacher Training Intensive.

Sara currently works as a Postpartum Doula in West Toronto and is completing her first year of studies at The Centre for Training in Psychotherapy. Sara holds a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from Ryerson University, a Bachelor of Fine Art with Honours in Dance from York University and has worked as a yoga teacher both privately and publicly for over ten years in Toronto. The focus of her private work is with those in chronic pain, issues around fertility, anxiety/depression, and common ailments of pregnancy and postpartum recovery.
